Families of Kids with Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Inc. supports child and teen mental health by empowering West Central Florida families through increased community awareness and acceptance programs. We passionately strive to involve the whole community in education, care and support programs to reduce stigma and increase self-confidence so all youth may openly be accepted and understood for who they are.
Please note: Our online community includes those from all over the United States and Canada. We are happy to share with you what we are doing so that you may help fill in the gaps for youth mental health in your community.
|
- Hospitalization - To provide support for times of hospitalization of children and teens with mental health problems by collaborating with hospitals and crisis stabilization units.
Our plan includes partnering with area mental health hospitals to help families and communities better understand hospitalization, and to eliminate the stigma associated with it. By providing supportive resources to families, children/teens, and the facility, we will help increase feelings of positivity and confidence so that more youth may receive needed treatment.
- Education - To increase awareness and understanding of mental illness by targeting those who work with and care for children and teens; this focus includes the complimentary goal of educating youth.
Our Plan includes bringing bringing "Breaking the Silence" to area schools and other organizations, starting with pilot programs in west central Florida.
- Family Support - To provide opportunities for families to increase their understanding, to connect with others and to share support, in regards to child and teen mental health and care of the whole family.
Our plan includes a) gathering information from local families, mental health professionals and other interested individuals, in order to implement monthly structured gatherings; and b) supporting efforts to make respite care available to more families, especially in areas where there is currently a lack of providers and funding.
